Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 Untethered On iPhone, iPad, iPod touch (A4 Devices) Now Using Redsn0w 0.9.10b1 / Corona

It has been nearly eight weeks since the first declaration by pod2g that he had found a bug that he believed could provide an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5. We find ourselves exactly fifty days down the line, and what I imagine has been a lot of sleepless nights for the developers involved, but we now officially have the release of an untethered jailbreak for all A4 devices running iOS 5.0.1.

On December 22nd, pod2g announced via his official blog that would be passing all of his work and details across to the researchers at the Chronic Development Team partly to allow him to concentrate on progressing the development of an A5 jailbreak, and partly because he believed that the Chronic Dev Team could integrate and package all of his work into a distributable jailbreak.

It seems that his instincts were correct as only five days after that decision was made, we are seeing a release of a jailbreak for A4 devices on iOS 5.0.1 which has been implemented by both the Chronic Dev  and iPhone Dev teams.

The iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak contains the exact same set of files that pod2g provided to the Chronic Dev Team, and can be distributed as either a download via Cydia by searching for a package named ‘Corona’, for users who are already jailbroken tethered, or through a Redsn0w bundle for users who have running stock iOS and have been waiting for this untether.

At the time of writing, it is worth noting that this jailbreak currently only supports iOS 5.0.1 with Chronic Dev Team member p0sixninja tweeting out that 5.0 will follow soon after a number of small bugs have been eradicated and more testing has been carried out. Pod2g has also released some advice to A4 and A5 users advising not to update their devices to iOS 5.0.2 or 5.1 when released as this would cut their chance of a future jailbreak.
Note: The jailbreak released is supported on all A4 based (and below) devices like iPhone 4, 3GS, iPod touch 3G/4G and iPad 1. Newer A5-based devices like iPad 2 and iPhone 4S are currently not supported.

For Users On iOS 5.0.1 Tethered Jailbreak:
If you are currently operating an A4 device which has a tethered jailbreak using Redsn0w,Ac1dSn0w or Sn0wbreeze then you can simply launch Cydia from your Springboard and download a package named ‘Corona’ which will provide you with an untethered jailbreak.

For Users On Stock iOS 5.0.1:
If your device is running stock iOS 5.0.1 then you can use download the latest Redsn0w 0.9.10b1 to for either Windows or Mac to give yourself an untethered jailbreak, instructions for which can be found below.

Step 1: Download the latest version of Redsn0w from the links given above.
Step 2: Start Redsn0w, select "Jailbreak" then check "Install Cydia". Follow the onscreen steps to place your device into DFU mode.
Step 3: Wait for Redsn0w to apply the full untethered jailbreak!
Once done, your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch will be rebooted into fully untethered jailbreak mode!

iPhone 4 GSM, jailbroken on iOS 5.0.1
For Users Who Rely On Unlock:
For those of you who rely on Ultrasn0w or Gevey SIM unlock must preserve the old baseband using “Custom IPSW” option found in Redsn0w.

Spire:Legal Siri Port For iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch, iPad 1

Well known and respected developer chpwn has finally released first legal Siri port to public for older generation iOS devices. Dubbed as Spire, the port allows iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4G/3G and first-gen iPad users, jailbroken on iOS 5, to run Siri, which has official been available only for iPhone 4S users.
image
Available for free on Cydia right now, the download comes in at around 100mb in size as it uses a new method to obtain all the necessary files legally directly from Apple’s servers.
There is however a catch to it. It is not as easy to get it running as it sounds. You will need to have your own Siri proxy setup, and an iPhone 4S for authentication to get it running on your older-gen iOS device. As explained by chpwn on his blog:
However, Spire is not a complete solution. Apple still requires authorization to use Siri, so information from an iPhone 4S is still required. To insert this information, Spire allows you to enter your own proxy server address. I’ve put up a list of my ideas on how you might get access to a proxy; hopefully you can figure something out.
To get a Siri proxy, chpwn suggests:
  • westbaer’s SiriProxy fork
    • Own an iPhone 4S too: Maybe you already own an iPhone 4S, and just want Siri on another device of yours. This is simple; you can just use the above proxy yourself.
    • Find a friend: Maybe your friend has an iPhone 4S and will let you use their authentication tokens (maybe in exchange for some cool SiriProxy plugins). Then, you can share the authentication. Or, maybe you gave your relative your old iPhone when you got your iPhone 4S: now you can share your token and give them Siri.
  • Pay up: It’s very likely that soon we will see for-pay services online to rent you some space on a Siri proxy, attached to one of their iPhone 4S devices. I haven’t seen anything like this yet, but I’ll keep my eye out, and I would encourage anyone who is interested to set something like this up.
  • And now for something completely different: As I suggested earlier, you might be able to replace Siri entirely. A simple method might be to use Google Chrome’s speech “API” hooked up to some code to decode the Siri requests and parse Google’s result. Or, someone could hook it up to some logic backends like many of the clones available on Android: the possibilities are endless.
To install Spire package, simply head over to Cydia, search for “Spire”, and install it. You don’t need to add any new repo as it is available on Cydia’s default BigBoss repository.

Wanna Use Facebook Timeline Right Now

1. Log into Facebook
2. Enable developer mode, if you haven’t already. To do this, type “developer” into the Facebook search box, click the first result (it should be an app made by Facebook with a few hundred thousand users), and add the app.
3. Jump into the developer app (if Facebook doesn’t put you there automatically, it should be in your left-hand tool bar)
4. Create a new app (don’t worry — you wont actually be submitting this for anyone else to see/use). Give your new app any display name and namespace (min of 7-words) you see fit. Read through and agree to the Platform Privacy agreement. This is the step you need to be verified for.
5. Ensure you’re in your new app’s main settings screen. You should see your app’s name near the top of the page
6. Look for the “Open Graph” header, and click the “Get Started using open graph” link.
Create a test action for your app, like “read” a “book”, or “eat” a “sandwich”
7. This should drop you into an action type configuration page. Change a few of the default settings (I changed the past tense of “read” to “redd” — again, only you can see this unless you try and submit your application to the public directory), and click through all three pages of settings
8. Wait 2-3 minutes
9. Go back to your Facebook homescreen. An invite to try Timeline should be waiting at the top of the page
Now you can use Facebook Timeline.....With your own account...

1 – Farmville: As addictive as an online game can get, Farmville allows you to play farmerk as you harvest and plant crops. Facebook friends are neighbors helping you in the entire process. And it’s not just plants you’re taking care of here, there’s the responsibility of raising livestock too. Scaling up various levels lets you unlock and buy more stuff. Just start off by planting a seed and wait for it to grow while ensuring it does not rot. Besides, the landscape is beautiful as cutesy characters scurry around.
2 – Mafia Wars: Unleashing the gangster in you as you indulge in Mafia Wars, it’s a crime game that lets you form your very own mafia gang. And just who would be your crime partners? Obviously trusted Facebook friends. Pick members of your crew wisely as it is your fight for survival. Fighting other players online and completing tasks throws open a world of rewards while also increasing your strength in the game. With the main aim of expanding your criminal empire, you need to indulge in petty jobs so that your pockets are filled with cash and items.
3 – Bejeweled Blitz: Loving matching and pairing things up? Gear up to do just that with gems. In a minute, Bejeweled Blitz requires you to match gems and multipliers so as to attain the highest possible score. Share your scores on leaderboards and challenge Facebook friends – there’s really much to do in this game. Start by forming lines of three with gems of similar colors adjacent to each other. As the matched gems disappear, additional gems are added onboard. You can also take advantage of special gems by matching 4 or more items.
4 – CityVille: The causal city building game takes your social experience to a whole new level. Construct buildings, and collect rent while also gaining the opportunity to be the mayor of a city. Energy points replenished constantly are what you will need for all your tasks. And moving up a level increases the amount of energy you have. That’s not all – you can tour through your neighbor’s city and take up a maximum of 5 different jobs every 12 hours. These jobs add to your reputation, increasing your chances of getting free goods bonus, energy points and coins regularly. Goals that need to be completed appear on the upper left corner of the screen.
5 – Gardens of Time: Together with Alistair Wells, your mentor and partner in Gardens of Time, you set out on a journey uncovering mysterious hidden objects in locations of historical value. Working for the rather mystifying Time Society which had been established in the early 20th century, players voyage through the extreme corners of the Earth. As a new recruit, you follow Alistair in the Society’s bid to preserve historical founders.
6 – Empires & Allies: The combat and strategy game, Empires & Allies gives players 15 empire points to get started. Displaying a fun military cartoon world, each included archipelago is a representation of an ‘empire’. Players start with one island and can stretch up to a maximum of four other islands. ‘The Raven’ is the main villain in the game and defeating him is the goal. The title stands out with a graphically rich exhibition of modern warfare and violence. You may have to cough up a few extra pennies to gain additional empire points.
7 – Diamond Dash: For those who enjoy Bejeweled Blitz, Diamond Dash may feel like its best imitation. But the puzzle game does have lots in store. Like an interesting way of destroying shiny gems. You don’t switch their positions but rather click and drag or click the two identical ones in line. The flawless interface requires players to simply click sections having three or more similar gems. There’s a 60 second timer to do this while weekly tournaments and a level system along with power-ups take it a notch above.
8 – Café World: Fancy running your own restaurant? Well, welcome to Café World where you take complete control of a restaurant, right from picking dishes to chopping and baking them. You move your way up in culinary world with the help of waiters and waitresses which will be your friends who serve out your food to guests. The game features 80 levels with each one unlocking additional breeds of fish, decor items, and gifts. Like most social games, neighbors are an integral part of your aquarium.

6 Best Android Tablets of 2011

1. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1: It’s time to Tab with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (not 8.9) which costs upwards from $499.99. The company may have been placing its bets on the 7” version initially, because those were times of uncertainty. It was when no one was sure whether they wanted a large Android phone or a netbook without the keyboard from a slate. Well, they could have taken a cue from the iPad and just given us the Galaxy Tab 10.1. At any rate, we’re not complaining considering its 1,280 x 800p WXGA display, Honeycomb 3.1-readiness, 1GHz dual core Tegra 2 processor, 8MP rear camera and more.

2. Motorola Xoom: The second in our queue is the Motorola Xoom which comes powered by a 1GHz dual core Nvidia Tegra 2 chip and Honeycomb 3.1. A 10.1” 1280 x 800p WXGA touchscreen display stretches across the front and there’s 3G, Wi-Fi and 4G connectivity. The tablet renders around 10 hours of browsing over Wi-Fi and embeds a 5MP rear snapper with 720p recording capabilities as well as a 2MP webcam on the bezel. It can be ordered from the Motorola website starting at $499 for the plain Wi-Fi flavor.

3. Asus Eee Pad Transformer: Depending on whether you’re shopping for the 16GB or 32GB Asus Eee Pad Transformer on Amazon, you’ll be shelling out approximately $394 or $469, for the respective variants. A 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 processor supplies all the steam for multi-tasking and HD video playback. The screen happens to be a 10.1” LED backlit WXGA one with 10-finger multi-touch accommodation. We need hardly mention that it works with Honeycomb, Android 3.2 in this case, and provides Adobe Flash 10.2 support.

4. Acer Iconia Tab A500: For those who’re totally into sleek aluminum back panels, the Acer Iconia Tab A500 has just this to proffer. It flaunts a 10.1” 1280 x 800p multi-touch screen and dual core Nvidia Tegra 2 CPU as also HD-optimized graphics from the Nvidia GeForce GPU with Flash 10.2 support. Among the many terminals decorating its edges is a microUSB 2.0 port, a USB 2.0 port and a micro HDMI out. Priced below $400 on Amazon, the tablet runs Honeycomb 3.0 and integrates a pair of cameras, one with a 5MP sensor and the other with a 2MP sensor.

5. Archos 80 G9: Because it takes all kinds to make a list of Android tablets feel complete, the Archos 80 G9 is here for everyone who wants to hook up this slate to the web through a microUSB port. The $299.99 device won’t cajole you into choosing between 3G or Wi-Fi since Archos has developed a separately purchasable 3G dongle for their G9s. On the spec front, it sports Android 3.2, a 1GHz ARM Cortex A9 dual core processor, a 720p front facing webcam, 8GB storage (definitely on the lighter side) and an 8” 1,024 x 768p resolution capacitive touchscreen.

6. Sony Tablet S: Sporting a rather unusual form factor for a slate, the Sony Tablet S is on our list of the 6 best Android tablets of 2011 owing mainly to its appearance. You may want to tread cautiously around the idea of a touchscreen device without Gorilla Glass, but it’s got its highs too. These involve a 1.2GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 dual core processor, Honeycomb, a 9.4” LED backlit TruBlack Display, DLNA, Wi-Fi and PlayStation certification for $499.99, if you pick up the 16GB version and $599.99 for the 32GB model.

Sony Tablet S gets Android 3.2

Sony tablet S owners who bought the 9.4in screen Android slate over the last few days will find an update is ready for download. The Sony Tablet S went onsale in the UK on 16 September and is already proving popular with technology fans. However, Sony launched the Tablet S as an Android 3.1 Honeycomb device, promising an update to 3.2 sometime afterwards.

Often, such promises disappear almost as soon as they’re made. Not so, it seems with the Sony Tablet S: an update notification for the device available today is already delivering the update. The upgrade to Android 3.2 is about 181MB.

Among the new features is support for Sony’s video store, known as Video Unlimited.Music Unlimited – a variant of the existing Qrocity service accessible to Sony Bravia customers. The 10 million-song-strong download and streaming service will be rebranded Music Unlimited powered by Qrocity.
The rollout of the Sony Entertainment Network will also see the introduction of the Sony Reader Online Store around 30 October. The Sony PlayStation services that allow Tablet S and Tablet P owners to play their PS3 games on their Android tablets, will also go live in the next month.
Sony started selling the 16GB Wi-Fi version of the Tablet S in the UK on 16 September. A 32GB version and a 16GB Wi-Fi+3G version are set to go onsale in the next few weeks and will come with Android 3.2 preinstalled. The Sony Tablet range also includes a split-screen model called the Sony Tablet P.

Google releases Google Music web app for iPhone and iPad

You can now listen to your Google Music collection comfortably on your iPhone or iPad thanks to the new Google Music web app that was just released today. Google announced the web app via Twitter. Users that have an account can now listen to their collection in the comfort of a slick little web app, rather than the previous hacky methods.
The app looks pretty great and feels much snazzier than your average Google app. Hopefully this is a sign of good design to come. Functionally it is a pure ‘player’, with no ability to upload any music or browse any catalogs of music, much like the rest of the Google Music service at the moment.
The player is a relatively spartan affair, but shows off a much darker and more stylized design than we’re used to seeing from Google products. You can browse songs by artist, album, genre or playlist, if you have any set up. Once you have a song playing, the app can also be left to play in the background and you can control it using the built-in music controls on iOS just like any other audio source. There is also a search function, if your library is that big.
We asked Google if a native app for iOS was coming soon but it says that it is considering options to share Google Music with more people, but doesn’t have anything to share as of yet.
You can see the new web app from your iOS device at Music.Google.com, as long as you have an invite to the service of course.

Google releases first official Blogger app for iPhone

Google has today announced a Blogger app for iPhone and iPod touch devices. The app will allow you to write and publish right from your iOS devices and is available immediately for free. This is the first time that it has been released on the iOS platform, although there has been an Android version available for some time.

The app allows you to publish from multiple Blogger accounts, post images from the gallery or the camera and label your blog posts. There is also support for tagging a post with a location. You can save your posts as drafts or publish them immediately and browse the list of drafts and posts in your archive.

The app seems to stick to the Google ‘less is more’ aesthetic, with a two-tone orangesickle interface. You also can’t do much more than write and publish. No formatting, no image adjustment, not even a choice of fonts or even a button to add a link. It seems incredibly bare-bones at this point. There are a dozen other alternatives that offer more features on the App Store. It is a start, however, and Google seems to like dropping apps like this and then iterating on them in public, so hopefully we’ll see some updates coming in the future that add the basic necessities.

There have been other apps for iOS that allow publishing to Blogger, like BlogPress, but this is the first official one. You can grab the Blogger app now on the App Store.

Microsoft is set to introduce one of the first tablet devices running its new Windows 8 operating system at its BUILD conference commencing on September 13, a device born from the first hardware collaboration between the Redmond-based software giant and Korean electronics behemoth Samsung.
Microsoft will issue Windows 8 powered tablets at the conference, suggesting that Samsung could pursue a similar marketing opportunity similar to when it issued attendees at Google’s I/O developer conference with Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablets.
Winrumors reports that the new tablet will be ARM-powered and utilise a number of sensors which Windows 8 will actively support. It is possible that the devices given away at the event will be quad-core tablets, although it is not known whether the Samsung device will feature that specific chipset.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Duo

Xperia Duo has a 4.5 inch wide LED backlit LCD capacitive touchscreen and displays images with its 16 million colors. Having a pixel resolution of 540×960, it can display images with great clarity. The phone has a very good screen and is operated by new technologies used Sony Ericsson in its phones. Well the difference here is that all the features and technologies previously used in the previous Sony Ericsson phones has been used in this new Xperia Duo.
This new phone is powered by a 1.4 GHz dual core Qualcomm MSM8260 processor. It runs on the Android version 2.3 Gingerbread and combined with 1.5 GB of RAM, no doubt this new phone is built for performance. In short, this kind of specifications makes Xperia Duo just short of a fully fledged computer. Apart from this, you can also expand the memory up to 32 GB through microSD cards.
Xperia Duo is equipped with a 12 MP rear camera that take super sharp images with whopping 4000×3000 pixels resolution and records videos at 1080p. The front 1.3 MP camera could well be used for video calling as well. Connectivity options are abundant as you will get connectivity through Bluetooth version 2.1 and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n network and access to internet from Wi-Fi hotspots. Xperia Duo is 3G and 4G enabled, so you can well expect fast internet browsing capability. Now, if this phone comes with so many high end features then it needs to have a powerful battery to support them all and so Sony Ericsson put in a 2500 mAh battery. Unlike other phones which have Li-ion batteries, Xperia Duo has a Lithium polymer battery and these kinds of batteries are used in laptops.

5 Phones That Could End Samsung Galaxy S2's Dominance

The top five Galaxy S2 contenders are: Google Nexus Prime, Motorola Droid Bionic, Motorola Photon 4G, HTC Holiday, and HTC Vigor.

Galaxy S 2 was announced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February and since then the phone has continued its march. Galaxy S2 comes to the U.S. after selling a record 5 million units in 85 days in Europe and Asia and is the best-selling Samsung phone ever.
Galaxy S2, which runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS and sports Samsung's TouchWiz UI, comes with an 8-megapixel camera with flash and can record HD video in 1080p offering the richest video content on a smartphone. The phone also has the front-facing 2-megapixel camera for video chat.It is powered by a dual-core 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 Mali-400MP GPU Orion chipset. The phone comes in 16/32GB internal memory configuration with 1GB RAM.
But, does Samsung Galaxy S2 has enough firepower to challenge the top 5 new 'super' smartphones that run on Google's Android?
Google Nexus Prime:
The Nexus Prime will most likely be the first smartphone to run on Android 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich" and will likely be launched in October.Ice Cream Sandwich will combine the best features of Honeycomb (Android tablet OS) and Gingerbread (Android smartphone OS).
The Google Nexus Prime has been called an "absolute beast" among smartphones and there is a very good reason. The smartphone will boast a dual-core Snapdragon processor that will include Krait chips from Qualcomm, and a 1GB RAM.
It is not yet known if the processor will be of either 1.2GHz or 1.5GHz. The Krait-based Snapdragon processor will have the ability to run at a lightning speed of 2.5 GHz per core at the least, which will make it more than 100 times faster than a normal ARM-based CPU.
Nexus phone will feature a 720p HD “monster-sized" display, a 4G LTE radio, 1GB of RAM, 1080p HD video capture and playback, a 1-megapixel front-facing camera, and a 5-megapixel rear camera.
Nexus Prime is reportedly being built by Samsung and that it may sport a 1.5GHz dual-core processor as against the single core, 1GHz processor in the Nexus S. The display will be upgraded to a 4.5-inch 720p Super AMOLED HD screen, whereas the Nexus S display is 4-inch and with lower resolution.
Motorola Droid Bionic:
